You Think That Living in America is Easy, think again
We all know that life is not easy, except children, who can sometimes have
an ideal of life that does not include many problems, but in general, from an
early age we begin to see the injustices and hardships of life, and we become
disappointed.
But there are things that catch us by surprise, especially when we are young adults starting to fend for ourselves.
But there are things that catch us by surprise, especially when we are young adults starting to fend for ourselves.
Here I will put some life lessons that I have learned and urge you all to tell us what lessons you have learned that I have not included here.
- Getting a Job is not as easy as we think. Young people often hear their parents tell them that if they study and discipline themselves they can get a good job. Even though this is true, the
unemployment rate is very large in many places and often makes it difficult to get work, regardless of education. Often, getting the skills we need to get a job can’t be obtained unless we work and sometimes if we're highly educated it can even make it harder to get certain jobs.
I mean, if you have a college degree, it can make it difficult for you to get work as a waitress, or bus boy, because they will think that you are overqualified and they won’t see you as someone who will stick to the job because they expect you to leave as soon as you get something else that’s better, and the fact that you're unemployed and in high need of any source of income, is not something that the boss will consider. Another example of the opposite is that you need to have experience in order to be a waitress, but you can’t get experience without working first, and many places are not willing to give you a chance to learn if you don’t have the experience yet.
-Without English you're nothing. Perhaps in our countries it is not so necessary, but every immigrant must know that the only way to get a job and anything good in the United States is with English. Here if you don’t know English you're nobody. People will not give you the respect that you deserve without at least the basics of English. Without English and Legal documents you risk suffering and to have to accept less than the minimum wage in any job.
-Up Leveling at work: people who remain faithful in the same job for 10 years or more tend to level up at a pace of a snail, since people newcomers tend to have higher wages and higher positions, while people that jump a lot from work to work are also frowned upon as they are viewed as if you can’t count on them and are irresponsible. Basically it is bad if you stay long in one place or change often.
-Buy a house- to buy a house you have to have at least 10% of the cost of the house for an average of three months in your saving bank, you need good credit and you have to have enough money to pay arrangements, and taxes and any other thing.
-Rent an Apartment – You must
have good credit or a guarantor that makes 80 times the monthly rent of your
future apartment, and you must pay upfront about 3 months rent, First month,
last month and security and many times a Brokers Fee that will be a percentage
of your annual rent.
-Get Good Credit- You need to
have a credit card in order to build credit. If you use only cash for
everything you buy, it may seem that is a good practice, but in the long run
you will suffer at the time of buying a house or getting a business loan.
-Buy a Car - one need not just the money to pay the sale price but for insurance, gasoline and any arrangements you need
-Make enough money to be completely independent of your parents and / or the government. Today money is needed for everything; many young people feel the need to live with the help of their parents until they are 25 to 30 years, here in the US. And if they are independent, it is very likely that they will need some help from the government because the cost of living is very high, and the minimum wage is too low for one to survive without any help, unless you enslave yourself working several jobs at once, and even then it’s hard.
-Be a Single mother-everyone knows how hard it is to be a single mother, and if you don’t know it you can imagine it. Because the mother needs to work hard and long hours to support their families and provide all their needs, and between work and home there is little time for her to enjoy and relax, let alone have an active social or romantic life.
-Be Your own boss -often we find ourselves unemployed and we look for ways to make money on our own, either by selling things or providing services, and this is something that can be very effective, but at the same time frustrating because many times we will find clients who treat us badly and don’t pay us and end up creating more problems than it solves.
What is there to do?? Just because life is often more difficult than we wish or even hope, does not mean that we should give up or stop caring about things, it simply means that we must focus on the things that give us pleasure and satisfaction, work hard to specialize in something that will give us better opportunities, and work and work and work. See the silver lining of things, and know that every failure is just a lesson learned and know that after the rain there is always a rainbow. Never give up on life. Just enjoy and keep trying until you achieve your dreams.

Aquí si no tienes inglés no eres nadie.
oportunidades y luchar y luchar y luchar.
