What Is Your Intention For The New Year?

Tonight I went out to my boss’ son’s Tova, which is basically a Jewish engagement party. I must admit I was really excited, not necessarily because of the engagement, which is nice, but because it was my first time ever going to one of these engagements. 

Every new experience I have is an excitement. Like spending Christmas with my second family, with new traditions and experiences that made the days memorable and life changing.

Today was another one of those days where you experience things you haven’t experienced before and not only was the Tova an experience on its own, but after that me and 3 coworkers went to have dinner at this expensive Kosher Steakhouse.

We got to the Steakhouse late and they tell us that the kitchen is closed but that we are welcome to stay for dessert and drinks, so the girls agree and I stay.

Once we sit down the manager tells us that he will be able to bring us some food. We start thinking that he will find some left overs in the kitchen and bring us whatever, and we agree to whatever.

What we were not expecting was a 3 course meal with 6 different decadent and exotic appetizers and 4 HUGE Steaks with fries and drinks.

The plates kept on coming and coming, several waiters would come at a time, and we felt like queens, at least I did.

I had never in my life felt so wealthy. And it’s true that I did feel hesitant when I saw the bill and I must admit I had NEVER had a meal more expensive than that before, but the experience is something that I will remember forever and something I will tell my children about and my grandkids and so on.

At dinner we were talking about work and life and I ask my co-workers. What makes you happy? One of them genuinely said work, the other was talking about how her work was her life, and I asked her if she enjoyed doing what she was doing, she said no, but it was her life. I then again asked her, what makes you happy? She paused and said that the conversation was getting too intense.

This made me think. Here we are, just one day before the end of the year and I want to ask you the very same question I asked my friend. What makes you happy?

And with that in mind ask yourself. Am I doing what makes me happy?

Are you slaving off at work, hours on end to accomplish what? Some pseudo satisfaction that you did something? Then what? When work is no longer there to give you that illusion of happiness, what do you have?

For me, I need my freedom. Freedom of time, freedom of money, freedom to enjoy my moments the way I please.

¿Cuál Es Tu Intención Para El Nuevo Año?

Esta noche fui a la fiesta de compromiso de mi jefe llamado un Tova, que es básicamente una fiesta de compromiso judío. Debo admitir que estaba muy emocionada, no necesariamente por el compromiso, lo cual es bueno, pero porque era mi primera vez en mi vida que iba a uno de estos compromisos.

Cada nueva experiencia que tengo es una emoción. Como lo fue pasar la Navidad con mi segunda familia, con nuevas tradiciones y experiencias que hicieron que los días fueran memorables y cambiaron mi vida.

Hoy ha sido otro de esos días en los que experimenté cosas que no había experimentado anteriormente y no sólo era el Tova lo cual era una experiencia por sí sola, pero después de eso, yo y 3 compañeros de trabajo nos fuimos a cenar en un Restaurante Steakhouse Kosher.

Llegamos a la Churrasquería tarde y nos dicen que la cocina está cerrada, pero que estábamos bienvenidas a quedarnos para comer postre y bebidas, por lo que las otras chicas y yo acepté quedarme también.

Una vez nos sentamos el gerente nos dice que él va a poder lograr traernos un poco de comida. Empezamos a pensar que va a encontrar algunas sobras de la cocina y nos lo va a traer, y estuvimos de acuerdo con comer lo que fuera.

Lo que no esperábamos era una comida de 3 cursos con 6 diferentes aperitivos decadentes y exóticos y 4 filetes enormes con papas fritas y bebidas.

Los platos siguieron viniendo y viniendo, varios camareros venían a la vez, y nos sentimos como reinas, al menos yo lo hice.

Nunca en mi vida me había sentido tan rica. Aunque si es verdad que me sentí un poco incomoda cuando vi la factura y ya que nunca me había comido una comida más cara que esta, pero la experiencia es algo que voy a recordar por siempre y algo que voy a compartir con mis hijos y mis nietos.

En la mesa estábamos hablando acerca del trabajo y la vida y me da por preguntarles a mis compañeras de trabajo. ¿Qué te hace feliz? Uno de ellas dijo sinceramente,  el trabajo, la otra estaba hablando acerca de cómo su trabajo era su vida, y le pregunté si le gustaba hacer lo que estaba haciendo, ella dijo que no, pero que era su vida. Yo, de nuevo le pregunté, ¿qué te hace feliz? Ella hizo una pausa y dijo que la conversación se estaba poniendo demasiado intensa.

Esto me hizo pensar. Aquí estamos, justo un día antes de que finalice el año y quiero hacerte la misma pregunta que le pregunté a mi amiga. ¿Qué te hace feliz?

Y con eso en mente pregúntese ustedes. ¿Estoy haciendo lo que me hace feliz?

¿Estás trabajando como un burro en el trabajo, horas y horas para lograr qué? ¿Alguna satisfacción imaginaria de haber hecho algo? ¿Y qué? Cuando el trabajo ya no está allí para darle esa ilusión de la felicidad, ¿qué tienes?

Para mí, yo necesito mi libertad. La libertad de tiempo, la libertad de dinero, la libertad para disfrutar de mis momentos de la manera que yo quiera.
