Are We Living Or Surviving?/¿Acaso Estamos Viviendo O Sobreviviendo?

Are We Living Or Surviving?

Life happens to us in repeated moments, we get up, brush our teeth, eat, bathroom, work, come home, eat, shower, sleep ... and the next day to do it again and again.

We live as if we were mechanical appliances made of metal, lifeless, numb to what we call living. We think that by working overtime we can save enough money to take a vacation in which we will plan to spend up to the last minute of the vacation being busy with one thing after the other, so that after we get home, we need another vacation just to recover from that vacation.

What do we get from this? Perhaps in this way we can say that we are living?

What does it mean to live? What is the purpose of our life? Are we living or surviving?

What I described above is what we call survival. Day in and day out, doing the same thing, without change, without feeling what it truly means to have the pleasure of life.

The pleasure you get from experiences, lived moments, times shared with other. Money doesn’t matter, but what matters is what we do with our lives, how many people we help, and how many experiences we live.

These last few days I can say that I did not survive but I lived my life. And I did it doing something that many people could see it as trivial or stupid but for me the experience of watching fireworks nearby, or of going to a "You Pull It Junk Yard" to find a windshield of a car, to remove it with the strength of your fists, getting dirty with the memories of a person who is not in possession of that car anymore and with seeing how a dragonfly had died in the car and had hardened to look like a stiff and beautiful toy and then take the glass and then install it on another vehicle, and crossing an avenue of 6 lanes in the middle of nowhere, at the risk of being hit is what I call life. To view the moon through a moon roof, to drive with your face outside the window of a car, feeling the breeze making your hair go everywhere. That's what I call living.

To help friends in times of need, to accompany them in their difficult moments, to share a birthday cake with people you just met. And knowing that despite the distance your loved ones are fine.

For every person, this thing we call living, these experiences are felt in different ways. What do you call life? A kiss, a hug, a shared meal, a trip to the store late at night, a help to the needy, a new awakening with the sun at your side.

Stop and think about the things that make you feel alive, the things that make you appreciate this life in the present, not the past nor the future, because our life we live it today and tomorrow is not promised.

If you have not begun to live, what are you waiting for?

Do you identify with this?

¿Acaso Estamos Viviendo O Sobreviviendo?

Si no has empezado a vivir, ¿qué esperas?

¿Te identificas con esto?

Don’t Dwell in the Past - No Vivas en el Pasado

Don’t Dwell in the Past

It's sad to live life in the past ... is what came to my mind the other day when a friend of mine was telling me all the things he remembered from his past.
It had been several days that I had noticed that he was nostalgic about his past, so I asked him this question:
If you could go back in time to when you were 16 years old. Would you?
And he answered, "Without a doubt."

The truth is that his answer made me sad. It is sad to think that someone prefers his past to the present that will take him to his future. I think many people think like him.
But I have a very different way of thinking.

It's nice to remember good times in the past, but we should never want to return to that time. Because we have to think that all we have lived in our past, all the experiences, all the mistakes, and the successes is what has shaped our present.

The present is full of opportunities, because we have the knowledge of the past, and of our past experiences and at the same time we should have an expectation of improvement that can only be achieved in the future. Going back to the past only means delay. It means you're going to go back to a time when you were less than what you are now, because in the past you were younger but also had less experience, less knowledge, less opportunities.

Life should be lived in the present with the joy of knowing that what you are today is better than you were, and that the future will always be better than it is today.

The funny thing is that when I went to church today they talked about this Bible passage that came to confirm what I thought.

Isaiah 43:18-19  New International Version (NIV)

18 “Forget the former things;

do not dwell on the past.

19 See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

    and streams in the wasteland.

What do you think? What is your experience? We want to hear your opinion. Tell us your story

18 «Olviden las cosas de antaño;

ya no vivan en el pasado.

19 ¡Voy a hacer algo nuevo!

Ya está sucediendo, ¿no se dan cuenta?

Estoy abriendo un camino en el desierto,

    y ríos en lugares desolados.
