Don’t Dwell in the Past
It's sad to live life in the past ... is what came to my mind the other day
when a friend of mine was telling me all the things
he remembered from his past.
It had been several days that I had noticed that he was nostalgic about his past, so I asked him this question:
If you could go back in time to when you were 16 years old. Would you?
And he answered, "Without a doubt."
The truth is that his answer made me sad. It is sad to think that someone prefers his past to the present that will take him to his future. I think many people think like him.
But I have a very different way of thinking.

It's nice to remember good times in the past, but we should never want to return to that time. Because we have to think that all we have lived in our past, all the experiences, all the mistakes, and the successes
is what has shaped our present.
The present is full of opportunities,
because we have the knowledge of the
past, and of our past experiences and at the same time we should have an expectation of improvement
that can only be achieved in the
future. Going back to the past
only means delay.
It means you're going to go back to a time when
you were less than what you are now, because in the past you were younger but
also had less
experience, less knowledge, less
opportunities.
Life should be lived in the present with the joy of knowing that what you are today is better than you were, and that the future will always be better than it is today.
The funny thing is that when I went to church today they talked about this Bible passage that came to confirm
what I thought.
Isaiah 43:18-19 New
International Version (NIV)
18 “Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not
perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.

18 «Olviden las cosas de antaño;
ya no vivan en el pasado.
19 ¡Voy a hacer algo nuevo!
Ya está sucediendo, ¿no se dan
cuenta?
Estoy abriendo un camino en el desierto,
y ríos en lugares desolados.
