Don’t Take This The Wrong Way
I don’t know if it’s the way society has
evolved, or if it’s how now a days it seems that everything has to be
politically correct, or maybe that people tend to be more sensitive now, maybe
in an era where there are so many lawsuits for petty things, people want to be
extra careful.
But something that bothers me a lot is when
people tell you right upfront: Don’t take this the wrong way…
I think this is one of the phrases that
angers people straight up the bat, because when someone tells you this you
automatically know that what the person is going to tell you next is something
that you don’t want to hear, and that the person that is saying it is trying to
avoid all responsibility for insulting you or offending you.
If you know you have to talk about
something sensitive, don’t tell the person to not take it the wrong way, simply
be sensitive about the way you say it and be upfront.
If you don’t say things
in an insulting way there is no need for the person to be offended, and you can
always clarify if there is a misunderstanding, as opposed to saying; don’t take
this the wrong way which will guarantee to bring red flags on the person from
even before you begin talking.
Another reason not to start a conversation
with: Don’t take this the wrong way…. Is that if whatever you say after that
sentence, if it isn’t offensive and it doesn’t insult the person in any way,
the person listening will think that you are an idiot for starting the sentence
that way.
How do you feel when people start the
sentence this way? Does it bother you? Or do you think that it actually serves its
purpose of warning you so you don’t get offended?
Tell us your story.

No Lo Tomes A Mal
empezar a hablar.
