What
is Family?
Today
I saw a
movie called "Instructions Not Included". About
a man who was a womanizer and one day one of the women who had been with him came over, dropped off a
baby with him and disappeared. This
man raised this girl with all the best that he
could give her, love, adventure and everything she needed to
be happy. And when the girl
was 7 years old, the
mother comes back to try to take
the child away from the father. I don’t want to tell you what happens because I don’t want to spoil it for you, but it's a very tender film
that shows the love of a parent to a child and
how children change our lives forever.
Family is the one who raises you, whether they are blood related or not. Family
is the one who gives us love, the one that supports us, advises us and watches over us.
When we are young that person that represents either a
mother or a father can be a
grandfather or grandmother, maybe it was just your
mother, because your father was
never around, or perhaps in your
case is the reverse. And when we get to adulthood our family often grows
to include in-laws or any other people that take the
role of family and that take
your heart.
There are many times in which our blood family can cause us problems, either by vices
they may have, clashes of personality or anything, but then, when we feel
that our own family hurts us, we should get closer to people who can
serve as family to us. Because
the family is the most important
thing in this world for each of
us, and we should always strive to maintain a strong
family unit, but that does not mean we should accept and let us keep getting intoxicated by a relative who constantly hurts us.
I am lucky because not only do I have a main family, but
I also have a secondary and even
an adoptive family, who has welcomed me
like family and
have gone to live inside my heart
forever.
What do you think? Is family only the ones that are related to you by blood? Or can family be
simply those that give you unconditional love and support?
I have two daughters and I really can’t even remember how my life was like without them, and I can’t imagine a life without these two treasures with which God has blessed me.
And that's what family
is, and should be, a blessing,
whether of blood, or just love.

¿Qué es la
Familia?
amor.
